In March 1834 — thirty-six years before the Town of Mashpee existed — the Massachusetts legislature abolished the guardianship here and made Mashpee a self-governing district with the right to elect its own selectmen. We’re the Republicans of that town: recruiting, promoting, and electing leaders who defend the values that built it, for the families and future of Mashpee.
Self-government was won here by petition, not handed down. We’re fighting to keep Mashpee a place where the people — not the bureaucracy — still decide.

We are the Mashpee Republican Town Committee. Our members come from every walk of life — varied careers, backgrounds, and ages — united in our commitment to the Constitution and to electing Republican candidates for local, county, state, and national office. All Republicans and Independents are welcome. We meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm, at the Mashpee TV studios, 168 Industrial Drive; upcoming dates are always on our Meetings page. “All men are born free and equal, says the constitution of the country.”
— from the resolutions adopted by the Mashpee Wampanoag on May 21, 1833, signed by roughly 108 people, declaring that they would rule themselves and refusing to let outsiders cut timber on their land without permission. The Commonwealth’s first answer was arrest. Its second, in March 1834, was to abolish the guardianship and make Mashpee a self-governing district with the right to elect its own officers.
